Chapter 3 covers the roof of the Camunda BPMN house – Strategic Process Models. Strategic models provide the view the team will need to work together towards the goals of the organization. A detailed map can be worked on and discussed after the strategic view is designed and fit to one page. Use ten or fewer objects during the strategic mapping phase so that “pet” perspectives of the process are left out until more detailed maps are built.
“All process models are incomplete – but some of them are useful!”
- Record the standard procedure
- Record the regular responsibilities
- Don’t record the weak points or devise improvements
- Keep tasks clear
- Minimize the use of gateways and other notation symbols
Strategy maps help process improvement professionals guide the participants towards cause/effect relationships.
